Roma sporting director Monchi gave a candid interview with Calciomercato.com in which he discussed several issues including the sales of key players during the summer, as well as his relationship with club legend Francesco Totti.

With regard to his decision to sell Leandro Paredes, Mohamed Salah and Antonio Rüdiger, he said: “Selling players happens everywhere. Don’t be scared, everyone does it. The key is to accept that, as I have with the same calmness as always.”

The former Sevilla transfer guru also discussed his relationship with Francesco Totti, who is now working alongside him as a director: “Firstly, let’s enjoy what we are doing together now, which is very important work. For me, Totti has to stay Totti, that’s what matters most. I consider him a person capable of helping me and, above all, the club. I think he liked my honesty, though it is difficult when someone has done the same thing for their whole life and then realise that it’s time for a change.”
