Serie A news: Nicola Rizzoli denies Bonucci headbutt

Controversies are mounting as Napoli’s front-man Gonzalo Higuain has just been suspended for the next four league games for committing disrespectful actions towards the referee and threatening one of his opponents.

Higuain’s reaction came after he received a second yellow card during last week end’s Napoli game against Udinese.

Napoli fans believe the decision of banning their best player for the next four games is not a fair and impartial one as Leonardo Bonucci only received a yellow card for allegedly headbutting Nicola Rizzoli during last month’s Turin derby.

However, it was the Italian and International referee himself who denied Leonardo Bonucci headbutted him while talking during an event organized by the ‘Dopo di noi ONLUS’ foundation, in Bologna today.

Bonucci did not headbutt me”, Mr. Rizzoli told journalists attending the event.

I pushed him away from my assistant, the player just went too far with protests. He didn’t come head to head with me, otherwise a yellow card would have not be enough.”

“You can’t understand what happened on the pitch from TV images.”

“There’s too much exasperation around this issue. Most of people in the world of football don’t even know the rules of the game.”

Referees are humble and they admit when they commit mistakes, all other people [players, directors, managers, journalists] should do the same.”
