Transfer news: Why Napoli assault for Liverpool star failed

Napoli were heavily linked to Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet in the summer, with it thought that the Belgian keeper would be Napoli’s final choice of purchase to fill their vacant goalkeeper position.

Mignolet’s representatives presented a proposal to Napoli, with Aurelio de Laurentiis starting negotiations to bring him in for Carlo Ancelotti to use.

However, the move fell through when Napoli were unable to meet the economic demands of both Liverpool and Mignolet himself – leading the Naples club to sign Arsenal’s David Ospina on loan instead.
