Video: Torreira admits he didn’t expect to join Arsenal and reveals Emery’s key role for his Gunners move

Arsenal star Lucas Torreira spoke with Arsenal media about his first months in North London: “There were many clubs that wanted to sign me and I’d never expected to arrive in England because I had many requests from Italy. Emery called me before the beginning of the World Cup. It was very surprising for me. That call made me a happy man, I knew I was watched by many teams but that call made me happy”.

“Emery allowed me to relax and focus on the World Cup before my transfer. I am proud to play for such an important team”.

Torreira joined Arsenal from Sampdoria in a € 30 million deal last summer. The player had a € 25 million release clause included in his contract, but Arsenal accepted to pay a bit more in order to spread the payment into multiple installments.

The Uruguay star did also speak about the differences between Serie A and Premier League: “I used to play only two competitions with Samp, now we are involved in four different competitions. It wasn’t easy at the beginning but I am lucky because the manager and the technical staff speak Spanish and it’s easier to settle in well”.
