Why Barcelona have turned down chance to sign Morata

Alvaro Morata is living a problematic season at Chelsea. After a good start, the Spanish striker is not playing his best football and he is no longer considered a starter by Maurizio Sarri. Juanma López, his agent, sees that Álvaro is unhappy at Stamford Bridge and that Sarri is not convinced by his performances, so he has reportedly been active to see if he can make a January move happen.

Yesterday, he met Andrea Berta, Atlético Madrid’s sporting director, to discuss about a potential transfer of the striker. A couple of days before, he was in Sevilla, dealing with Joaquín Caparrós. Other than these two Spanish clubs, Lopez also reportedly offered his player to Barcelona since they are looking for an alternative to Luis Suarez for the future (via Mundo Deportivo). The answer of Blaugrana was a no. The first reason was financial. It is estimated that a transfer for six months would cost 5 million euros, an amount to which Morata's salary should then be added. The second one is because the former Real Madrid player would only play in case of injuries to Suarez. Lastly, Barca are looking for younger candidates.
