AC Milan, Montella: ‘Inter penalty was not foul’

A very disappointed Vincenzo Montella talked to Sky Sport at the end of the Milan derby on Sunday night. Inter have sealed a thrilling 3-2 win thanks to a late penalty by Mauro Icardi (scorer of a hat-trick) but the rossoneri boss believes the nerazzurri penalty was not foul.

“D’Ambrosio was smart, he let himself fell down, Rodriguez didn’t grab his shirt. It’s a hard decision to make in the 90th minute, I accept it but I played football and I know how strong a challenge can be...I don’t understand why the referee didn’t ask for the help from home (referring to a possible VAR check).”

"I know my position, I know risks are part of my job but the club have always showed they trust me, I know the results are not there, but the club have faith in me."

BIGLIA – “He made a mistake on their second goal, he stopped Borja Valero as I told him and he gave order.”

BONUCCI – “I didn’t swap to a three-man defence for him. We have no replacements for Suso and Bonaventura. We have taken the right path, we created many goal chances.”
