He dragged Denmark to the 2018 World Cup by scoring a hat-trick in Dublin against Ireland, but Christian Eriksen’s sensational performances are nothing new. He has, of course, been tracked by top clubs for many years and is now in the form of his life at Tottenham Hotspur in North London.

Interestingly, Sportmediaset.it have revisited 2008 when AC Milan had the chance to sign the attacking midfielder but refused to pay Odense’s €800,000 asking price. Instead they opted to sign Alexander Merkel who has since gone on to flop at both Genoa and Udinese. The 25-year-old Kazakh-German currently plies his trade with VfL Bochum in Germany’s second tier.

Looking back now, what a bargain that would have been had the Rossoneri been willing to stump up a modest fee for a player who is establishing himself as one of the best of his kind in the modern game.
