Agent: 'Roma very close to Sarri, but someone from America said no'

A famous Italian football agent claims that Roma were all but ready to pounce for Maurizio Sarri last season, before the move was stonewalled by someone from the organisation based in the United States.

Bruno Canovi is one of the old boot's most famed and respected agents, having worked with the likes of Bruno Giordano, Toninho Cerezo, Paulo Roberto Falcao and Alessandro Nesta, to name just a few.

"From what I've heard, Roma were already bearing down on Maurizio Sarri last year" Canovi said in an exclusive interview with our own Susanna Marcellini.

"Some even say that the Giallorossi had a contract ready, but it never saw the light of day because someone from America was opposed".

This juicy tidbit comes from Canovi's analysis of Rudi Garcia: "Roma entrusted themselves to a very overestimated manager, someone who wasn't up to the task.

"A French colleague of mine said that Garcia would have an exceptoonal first season, a second one with some problems... and a disastrous third one. And so it was".
