Despite claims that he wants to play Champions League football next season and the fact that he has reportedly agreed personal terms with Roma, Algerian play-maker Riyad Mahrez is set to snub a move to the Giallorossi in favour of one to Arsenal.

The 26-year-old has been identified by Roma sporting director Monchi as the priority transfer target for the remainder of the window but according to The Sun, the Italian’s will miss out with Mahrez himself ready to wait until nearer the end of the summer to try to get a move to The Emirates.

Having told Leicester City that he wants to leave the club, the journal now understands that he will wait to see what happens with Alexis Sanchez and should the Chilean star leave North London, then Mahrez is convinced that boss Arsene Wenger will come calling.

The French tactician made a move for the player last summer but Mahrez decided to stay loyal to the club he had just help win the Premier League title. 12 months on and things are very different; on Friday Foxes boss Craig Shakespeare confirmed that there had been a bid from Roma for the player but replied that it had been; “politely declined on the basis it was a low offer”.
