Allegri eyes Juventus tactical tweaks, Matuidi in defence

Ahead of their encounter with Benevento on Sunday, Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has been testing new ideas in training.

The Bianconeri can ill-afford a slip-up this weekend heading into the international break, as they sit three points adrift of leaders Napoli after 11 games.

In turn, they’ll be desperate to take advantage of any setback suffered by Maurizio Sarri’s men, but will have to remain focused on what they control.

Allegri is without Medhi Benatia this weekend due to an ankle injury, while Benedikt Howedes could return after overcoming a muscle problem.

However, one of ideas being considered by the Juve boss is playing Blaise Matuidi in defence in a back three in between Andre Barzagli and Giorgio Chiellini.

In addition, Marko Pjaca was played in a central attacking role and scored twice in a 6-0 win in a training match, and the young Croatian could therefore offer a different option moving forward but is likely to feature for the Primavera side this weekend.

As a result, Allegri could go with a 3-4-2-1, consisting of: Buffon; Barzagli (Rugani), Matuidi, Chiellini; Cuadrado, Pjanic, Khedira, Alex Sandro; Dybala, Mandzukic; Higuain.
