Argentina, Messi talks of Icardi, Higain and Dybala

Having completed a training session with his Argentina teammates earlier today, talisman Lionel Messi spoke with TyC Sports and addressed recent rumours suggesting he had previously vetoed an international call-up for Mauro Icardi: “The truth is that these rumours are all complete nonsense, it’s not true that we did not want Icardi to receive a call-up. I never put myself in that position, it’s not my way of doing things. I’m laughing at all the shit I’ve heard about the likes of Mascherano, di María and Biglia. To say that they only play because they are my friends is a lack of respect towards me and them, it is all lies.”

HIGUAIN & DYBALA – “The World Cup final defeat in 2014? It hurt us a lot, as it hurt everyone. Unfortunately, Higuaín suffered some bad moments but we are a team despite everything. We have grown accustomed to feeling certain things together. As for Dybala, there is not much left to say other than that when he said we were incompatible I understood what he meant from the first moment.”

WORLD CUP – “If we come back from Russia victorious, I vote for walking to The Sanctuary of the Virgin of San Nicolás. We have played three finals and have deserved to win at least two of them, but these things happen. We could not afford to not qualify and I always had faith that we would do it. Now let’s focus on the tournament in Russia, because times passes quickly."
