Arsenal expected to announce Schalke defender next week

After securing Arsene Wenger to a two year contract extension, the Gunners can turn their attention to their player transfer strategy. With many players waiting to see how the saga with the longtime French coach would end, Wenger’s decision could catapult the London club back into the frenzy of summer speculation. Following the clubs difficulty throughout the season, some reinforcements are undoubtedly necessary to compete for the EPL title next season.

Reports out of the UK today via the Daily Star, note that the first of those signings is expected to be out of contract Schalke defender Sead Kolasinac, who had been on and off the radar of clubs throughout Europe beginning last winter. Considered by many to be one of the best free transfers this summer, the underrated Bosnia and Herzegovina international will add to the depth and quality of Arsenal’s often shaky backline. The 23 year old can also move into a midfield role, giving his next club a choice of versatility in formation. Expect more signings from the Gunners in the coming weeks, as Wenger’s decision could sway players toward a move to London.
