Arsenal prepare £70m raid for Sporting Lisbon players

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger – if reports were to suggest - may have already swung the deal for Lyon’s much-rated Alexandre Lacazette. But the Frenchman is not stopping there as he is preparing bids for Sport Lisbon players Gelson Martins and William Carvalho for £70m, according to Portuguese publication A Bola via the Daily Mirror.

The North London side have the 22-year-old winger Martins and the defensive midfielder on their hit-list, as they look to claim a Champions League spot next campaign following an unsuccessful league spell last season.

It may come as a surprise to many Gunner supporters as the club have not been the most active on the transfer front in recent years, but with the added pressure on Wenger – who signed a two-year contract extension earlier this year – it looks as if the club are throwing everything at clubs in order to seal their targets for a pivotal next year.
