AS Roma coach Di Francesco wants a more 'cynical' team

Roma coach Eusebio Di Francesco spoke with Premium Sport after having watched his Giallorossi lose 2-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano to home team Atletico Madrid.

"We lost but we cannot forget who we were faced up against. We played on par with them but we have to be much more determined in the final passes and look for goals. We need to be more mean in front of goal" Di Francesco began.

Di Francesco was asked if maybe this defeat was healthy so that Roma don't get carried away, especially after the derby win this past weekend: "Euphoria is good, being presumptious is not good. we have to take on the defeats in an intelligent way. We made a lot of mistakes tonight but everyone struggles against Atletico. Besides they only created something more towards the end when we were down to 10 men."

The discussion then turned to Edin Dzeko's performance to which Di Francesco stated: "He will strive even more to be of service to the team, it is inevitable that sometimes he wont score. In the first half an hour we had chances to score."

In conclusion Di Francesco argued that Roma still has a margin to improve: "We can still raise ourselves one level, when it comes to a certain mentality, we have to get the quality out, we have to be more lucid in the final passes. We have to grow because in order to become great you have to be cynical not just in defence but in attack as well."
