Barca want to recruit €40m ex-Spurs man in January

Barcelona have a new strategy to recruit Paulinho, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The former Tottenham man wants to leave Guangzhou Evergrande, and is willing to take a paycut in order to join the Nou Camp side, with reports indicating that he has already reached an agreement with Barca.

The Cules have a plan: they want to sign Paulinho in January, so that he can represent the Chinese giants in the Asian Champions League. Robert Fernandez, the Catalans’ sporting director, is confident that this will work.

There are other problems: Paulinho has been the subject of two bids from the Liga contenders, who have offered €20 and €25 million for him. Guangzhou, for their part, want a minimum of €40m.

The former Spurs man left the Premier League in 2015 for €14 million, but at 28, he wants to return to big-time football.

Fellow Brazilian Neymar has also been lobbying to bring the 28-year-old in.

“He is a friend and a great player, everyone would receive him with open arms. He’s got great quality, everyone has seen what he can do when he plays for the national team.”
