Barcelona not giving up on Iniesta

Barcelona don’t sound like they’re giving up on Andres Iniesta anytime soon, Ernesto Valverde saying that it’s “hard to find others like him”.

The three-time Champions League winner has been linked with a move away from the Nou Camp, with Chelsea just one of the clubs that are interested in him.

New Coach Ernesto Valverde believes that the 33-year-old is still a part of his plans, while hinting that he may have a reduced role.

“It’s too early to worry about this. The important thing is that he is happy in the team, we’ll see how the season goes.

“He’s a player of a certain level, it’s hard to find others like him”.

Iniesta started only 13 Liga games last season, but did manage seven teamsheet appearances in the Champions League.

Iniesta himself recently shot down the idea of leaving the Camp Nou: "I have always expressed the urge to retire with the Barcelona shirt. It is still too early to decide on the my future.

“I'm not worried about my renewal with Barcelona because I'm now thinking of relaxing, recharging and having a big year. Nothing is new, I'm happy in Barcelona, where I hope to stay for a long time."
