Barcelona star Neymar risks five-year sentence, ban from football over corruption

Barcelona star Neymar could be sentenced to five years in jail, and even be banned from playing football.

These, at least, are the sentences the aggrieved party wants from the Selecao star’s upcoming trial for corruption.

DIS, the Brazilian investment group which owned 40% of Neymar’s rights, has long claimed that it didn’t receive its fair share from the Brazilian’s € 88.2 million move from Santos to Barcelona.

Speaking to Brazilian outlet UOL Esportes (via CM’s Italian page), DIS claim that “our clients want justice, it’s got nothing to do with money.

“Penal justice is a priority, money is of secondary importance. We’ve been tricked, and are victims of a fraudulent business”.

Their lawyer emphasises that they’ve “asked for five years. There’s the possibility ot a ban from football, too.

“The Spanish Prosecutor’s Office agrees with us that such a crime warrants a prison sentence”.

Neymar, his mother and a company run by his parents recently tried to have the corruption case thrown out of court, but were rebuffed by the Spanish High Court.
