Barcelona want to extend defender, increase €60m clause

Barcelona are trying to get Samuel Umtiti to sign a new deal, according to the latest reports from Spain.

The former Lyon defender has had to fight for a place since moving from Lyon in 2016, starting only 24 Liga games last season.

Yet he has improved gradually, and played very well in the coming season, where Barcelona have been all-but-perfect, failing to win only once - and that was on the road to Atletico on Saturday.

Now, AS reveal that Barcelona want their 25 million defender to stay three years longer - his deal currently expires in 2021 - until 2024, and want to improve his 60m release clause.

Speaking last year, the former Lyon man said back in April that he had improved as a consequence of playing every week against Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.

"It's not easy but I think it's one of the best ways to develop. For me, they are the best forwards in the world," he said.
