Behind the scenes: Juve made one last attempt for Icardi before meeting Higuain’s release clause

Gonzalo Higuain will play for Juventus next season The Old Lady has almost completed the signing of the Argentinean striker, but they will probably sell Pogba to Manchester United for the world-record fee of € 110 million, which mean Juventus have sold the most expensive player in the world, buying the third most expensive after Gareth Bale who moved from Tottenham to Real Madrid in a  € 101 million deal in 2013.

Sources, however, have exclusively told calciomercato.com that Juventus made one last attempt to sign Mauro Icardi before meeting the Argentinean’s release fee.

Icardi was offered € 7 million a year, whilst the Old Lady tabled a € 50 million bid to Inter, but the nerazzurri consider Icardi unsellable and have even refuse to sit around the negotiation table with one of their most hatred rivals.

Given Icardi’s unsellable status, Juventus have decided to invest part of proceedings from Pogba’s sale to buy Higuain from Napoli who will move to the J Stadium on a € 94.7 million deal.

What about the future of Icardi at Inter? The 23-year-old hit-man wants to extend his contract for one more season and get a pay rise. Inter have not even begun negotiations because Icardi signed a new contract less than one year ago and despite Wanda Nara’s pressure they are not going to offer Icardi a new deal in the short term.
