Behind the scenes: real reason why Donnarumma won’t sign new AC Milan contract

Gianluigi Donnarumma is not going to sign a contract extension with AC Milan. The choice of the promising goalkeeper was revealed by the rossoneri CEO Marco Fassone yesterday and AC Milan fans have not taken Donnarumma’s decision very well.

The 18-year-old goalkeeper had been offered € 5 million a year for the next five seasons but the player’s agent Mino Raiola has decided not to accept the rossoneri proposal.

Given that Donnarumma’s contract is set to expire in 2018, AC Milan can either sell him in the summer or keep him at the club for the entire 2017/18 campaign. This last option, however, would see Donnarumma leave the San Siro for free at the end of next season.

Our transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano has exclusively learned that AC Milan tried to make one last attempt to convince Donnarumma to stay at AC Milan yesterday. The rossoneri had increased their offer but the player’s agent Mino Raiola informed Marco Fassone that Donnarumma’s choice was is definitive.

Sources have told Calciomercato.com that Massimiliano Mirabelli did not attend yesterday’s meeting with Raiola as the club’s DS is not on good terms with the players’ agent. Mirabelli called Donnarumma on Tuesday to persuade him to sign a contract extension and Raiola did not take Mirabelli’s phone call very well.

According to our sources, money is problem for either Raiola or Donnarumma, but the Italian agent has persuaded Donnarumma to leave the club because he believes AC Milan’s new project is a winning one despite the rossoneri have already signed four new players. Raiola still doesn’t know who is behind the Chinese takeover and has persuaded Donnarumma to pack his suitcase and leave the club that has made him become one of the most wanted goalkeepers in the world.
