Benfica say goodbye to imminent €40m Man United signing

Victor Lindelof is all but a Manchester United player.

Manchester United confirmed at the weekend that they’d be signing the 23-year-old for nearly €35 million, or £30.7m.

The Red Devils announced on Saturday that the deal was happening, although Lindelof is set to sustain a medical this week.

Current club Benfica have posted on Twitter (via the Mirror), thanking the Swedish international “for everything” on the social media website.

"Manchester United is pleased to announce that it has reached agreement with Benfica for the transfer of Victor Lindelof, subject to a medical examination, international clearance and personal terms."

Portuguese paper Record announced that the former Vasteras player’s medical will be held on Wednesday, but that the total sum would be closer to €40m, which means that the two sides are still talking about performance-related bonuses.

The Red Devils came very close to signing Lindelof back in the winter, though the sums being mentioned were higher, with Nelson Semedo also potentially to be thrown into the deal.
