Benitez reveals why he resigned from Napoli in 2015

Former Napoli and Inter boss Rafael Benitez has revealed why he left the partenopei back in 2015.

Benitez had joined Napoli back in 2013 following a stint at Chelsea in the Premier League. After having won the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana with Napoli during his stay there, Benitez resigned in 2015 to later join Real Madrid as the club's boss.

Benitez recently gave a big interview to Gazzetta dello Sport and he talked about a host of things. One of the things he talked about was his resignation at Napoli. He has revealed the reason why he had resigned at the Stadio San Paolo.

He said:  "President De Laurentiis offered me a multi-year contract, but my two daughters were small and I gave priority to the family who wanted to go back to England or Spain."

Benitez also praised Walter Mazzari for doing a good job at Napoli before he had taken over from him. He said: "Mazzarri had done a good job, the team was running.

"But the arrival of players like Albiol, Callejon and Mertens had helped the youngsters to jump in quality. And Reina deserves a separate mention for his contribution in the field and in the locker room."
