Bonucci: Milan lack character

Leonardo Bonucci claims that Milan “need character” following their uninspiring 0-0 draw with AEK Athens.

The Rossoneri are coming off a pretty negative period, despite spending over 200 million this summer in order to bolster their squad.

“I see a lot of quality in this squad, but we lack a little bit of character and confidence to take more responsibility when the ball is at our feet,” the former Juventus man told Sky Italia.

Milan are coming off losses against Genoa, Roma, Inter and Juventus, and have also failed to beat AEK in two Europa League games.

Bonucci himself has played rather poorly since his arrival, despite Milan spending 40 million on him.

"The two games against AEK were strange, as they were often man-marking us and tried to crowd us out everywhere except in defence," the defender added.

“We knew it would be difficult, but we picked up a good point and will now focus on the game with Sassuolo. We want to get back on track in Serie A."

Bonucci also defended the under-fire Coach Vincenzo Montella.

“We are the ones who step on to the field, it's not just the ideas of the Coach. We need to get results to bring back the enthusiasm we had this summer.
