Breaking: Chelsea director leaves club. Good news for Conte?

Chelsea director Michael Emenalo has left Stamford Bridge, according to reports.

The former Nigerian footballer has done well to recruit some big names since joining in 2007, helping Chelsea to eight trophies.

According to the Telegraph, this has something to do with not wanting to be a part “of a three-way power struggle” with Antonio Conte and Marina Granovskaia.

It was initially believed by many that Emenalo wasn’t getting on with Conte, and footage of the Italian leaving Stamford Bridge in a joyous frenzy after beating Manchester United yesterday seemed to fuel that.

The Telegraph explain that the situation is more complicated than that:

The move may be viewed in some quarters as a victory for Conte, but Emenalo has remained supportive of the Italian who he helped to appoint last year.

Chelsea suffered a frustrating summer transfer window, which caused tension between Conte, Emenalo and director Marina Granovskaia.

Sources have suggested that Emenalo does not wish to engage in a three-way power battle with Conte and Granovskaia who are known not to see eye to eye.”
