Manchester City and Barcelona to challenge Juventus for 18-year-old promise

Barcelona and Manchester City will be challenging Juventus for the signing of Dayatchanculle Upamecano, an 18-year-old defender under contract with Red Bull Salzburg, Sport.es reports.

Upamecano is considered one of the most promising defenders of European football but according to rumours coming from Germany, Bundesliga table leaders RD Leipzig are close to signing the promising 18-year-old defender who has 20 appearances and two assists with the Austrian club so far this season.

The 18-year-old defender combines pace and physical strength and with all the three European giants looking for defence reinforcement, Upamecano comes as a genuine options for the future of Barcelona, Manchester City and Juventus.  

Upamecano could become Barcelona’s next Javier Mascherano as he can play as centre-back or defensive midfielder in front a four-man defensive line. The promising centre-back has four appearances with U-19 France national team and is a product of Valencienne academy. According to transfermarkt, the player’s price-tag is now around € 3 million but in case any of the three European giants interested in signing him approach Salzburg for the signing of the versatile defender, the Austrian club may ask to double that fee.
