Chelsea: Conte finally lands long-time targets after one year chase
Both players are long time targets of the Italian manager.
Rudiger was close to joining Chelsea last summer but his € 25 million move collapsed a few weeks before the beginning of Euro 2016. The rock solid centre-back, in fact, picked up a knee injury and was sidelined for almost six months.
The Blues came close to signing him for € 25 million one year ago and now Conte has managed to seal Rudiger’s transfer for a higher transfer fee.
Alvaro Morata is another player Conte is being chasing for so many years. The Italian suggested Juve to sign Morata back in 2014 but the Spaniard arrived in Turin weeks after Conte’s resignation as Juve boss.
Morata spent two years in Turin but he only played under Max Allegri before making return to his childhood club last summer.
One year ago Conte also attempted to sign Morata. The former Juve and Real star has recently confirmed that he had been discussing a potential move to Chelsea with Conte last summer.
“Various Premier League coaches called to tell me to play for them. I said yeah, I’d like to, that if I had to leave I would almost certainly go to London, but that I didn’t know what Madrid would do. I knew they’d bring me back but I didn’t know if it was to keep me or sell me. I spoke directly to Mauricio Pochettino and Antonio Conte, although the norm is clubs call my dad or agent. Madrid said they didn’t want to sell, so here I am”, Morata told The Guardian back in April.
Conte has been chasing Morata and Rudiger for more than one year. Now he can finally work with them and defend the Premier League title he won in his debut season in England last term.
