Chelsea: Hazard KO so Conte sets off in pursuit of Colombian superstar

After hearing that one of his star players will be out for at least three months with a broken ankle, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte may now have to reassess his transfer options this summer. Calciomercato.com’s Marco Demicheli writes that the Italian tactician will now consider a move for Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez.

Already on thin ice with Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane, the 25-year-old was omitted from Saturday’s Champions League Final squad and a divorce now looks inevitable. Real patron Florentino Perez told Antena 3 that; "We're going to speak with Zidane, who's the conductor of this orchestra. If it were up to me, everyone would stay. James is an incredible player, but when you have so many... I'd have everyone stay. We'll speak with the coach; he is the person who will decide the future."

With Manchester United also monitoring developments with interest and with the player already reported as telling close friends he wants to make the move to Old Trafford, Conte knows that he will have to move swiftly to try to beat off competition from his opposite number for a player who could realistically cost around £50M.
