Chelsea: possible Emenalo replacements revealed

Chelsea’s search for recently-departed technical director Michael Emenalo’s replacement has led them to approach former Monaco scout Luís Campos, who is currently working alongside Marcelo Bielsa at struggling Ligue 1 side Lille.

The Portuguese talent spotter played a major part in recruiting several players who played a key part in the principality club’s title success last season. Benjamin Mendy, Fabinho, Tiémoué Bakayoko and Thomas Lemar all arrived at the behest of the 53-year-old.

According to the Sunday Times, Campos would be interested in moving to the Premier League having worked under ex Chelsea boss José Mourinho during his Real Madrid tenure.

Meanwhile, the likes of Didier Drogba and Leonid Slutsky have also been mentioned as potential candidates, though The Sun understands former Blues midfielder Gianfranco Zola is seen by many as the man to rebuild the relationship between the club hierarchy and head coach Antonio Conte.

Whoever takes on the role will not be solely responsible for recruitment and the development of the club academy, given that director Marina Granovskaia has taken over Emenalo’s responsibilities and has already begun the process of discussing moves for potential transfer targets with agents ahead of the January transfer window.
