Chelsea relief as Morata clarifies talk of being unsettled

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has insisted that he’s happy at the club and with living in London after giving an interview in which he seemingly suggested otherwise.

The Spaniard would have worried Chelsea supporters earlier on Monday after his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport where he appeared to suggest that he wasn’t entirely content with living in the English capital.

However, he has reaffirmed his commitment to the Premier League champions after joining them from Real Madrid this past summer, and insisted that he would be happy to pen an even longer contract if it were offered to him.

“I want to say that we had a problem of understanding in this interview. If Chelsea proposed to me 10 years I’d probably sign that too.

“I’m happy with this club, in this city, with everything in London. I really like London and probably, if I improve, I can stay here more than five years.”

The 25-year-old did add that he eventually sees himself back in Spain when he opts to start a family of his own, and so it remains to be seen how long he remains in London with the Blues.

In the more immediate future though, he’ll be hoping to find his goalscoring touch in Chelsea’s clash with Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday night, as he returns to Italy following his previous successful spell with Juventus.

Morata has been in good form for Chelsea so far this season, scoring seven goals and providing three assists in 13 appearances in all competitions.
