Chelsea to make opening €48m bid for Roma star

Chelsea are ready to make an opening € 48 million bid to sign Roma star Kostas Monolas, according to reports in Greece (via Forzaroma.info). The Premier League giants need at least one new centre-back given that John Terry is going to leave the club.

The Premier League champions are being linked with welcoming the services of several top Serie A defenders including Leonardo Bonucci and Kalidou Koulibaly.

The Greece star, however, would be one of the ‘easiest’ targets to sign given that Roma must sell one of their stars by the end of the month to avoid penalties for breaching the Financial Fair Play.

If the news is accurate, Chelsea’s offer would come pretty close to Roma’s demands for the highly rated 26-year-old defender who is also being linked with a move to Zenit as new Russians’ boss Roberto Mancini has requested the club to secure the services of the former Olympiakos.
