City spend €138 million for three defenders, yet Milan get Conti-Bonucci-Rodriguez for only €85?

CM.com’s  Alessandro Cosattini, makes an intriguing argument regarding two important teams in this summer’s transfer window. The questions returns to the simple enquiry, how have Milan spent so much less than Pep Guardiola's Manchester City? The Rossoneri team for 85 million EUR has finalized three big players that will revolutionize Vincenzo Montella's defense. On the other hand, Manchester City spent 135 million EUR to buy three defenders. After the official arrival of Benjamin Mendy, however, one has to wonder why there is no central defender out of the group. Among Walker, Danilo, and Mendy two of whom are right footed and play the same position, it remains to be seen whether City are spending their money intelligently.

85 MILLION - Milan directors have already closed deals to secure four solid defenders. For the latest arrival, Leonardo Bonucci, they paid 42 million EUR. Andrea Conti came for 25 million EUR from Atalanta, and Ricardo Rodriguez, who came this summer from Wolfsburg, cost 18 million. Finally, there is Mateo Musacchio, who also came for 18 million EUR from Villarreal.

CITY SPENDING? - Manchester City, on the other hand, shelled out much more cash than Milan. For 57.5 million EUR, Mendy's arrival from Monaco was formalized. Previously the Citizens had announced Kyle Walker's purchase from Tottenham for 51 million EUR, and the former Juve target Danilo from Real Madrid for 30 million. The peculiarity is represented by the role played by the similar players wanted by Pep Guardiola. Danilo and Walker, in fact, are both right backs, and could be called ‘duplicates’. The newcomer Mendy is a left-back and will take the place on the left side for the departed Aleksandar Kolarov, recently bought by Roma. But, given the defensive problems shown last season in the Premier League, would not it make any sense to invest some of those massive dollar amounts into a central defender?
