Del Piero: ‘Modric Ballon d’Or a well-deserved and historic prize’

The FIFA Ballon d’Or ceremony took place last night, with Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder Luka Modric winning the grand prize for the best player in 2018. Modric defeated the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann and Mohamed Salah for the title, with players, past and present, congratulating the Croatian on the award.

On Twitter, former Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero said the following:

‘Luka was one of the keys to Real Madrid's successes and he took Croatia one step away from his dream with a great World Cup, a well-deserved and historic prize, he is the first Croatian to win the Ballon d’Or! I have great admiration for him.’
