Exclusive – AC Milan legend Serginho gives advices to new owners

Serginho was one of AC Milan’s best players in the club’s golden age. The Brazilian shined under Carlo Ancelotti and today has released an exclusive interview with calciomercato.com.

Which are your thoughts on the club’s takeover?
“It’s a particular decision. Everyone knows how deeply in love Berlusconi is with the club. He built something impossible. AC Milan turned into the most successful football club in the world under his presidency. I hope new owners will have at least half of Berlusconi’s passion I have such great memories.”

What do you think of the current squad? What do you think of Montella?
“Milan are leaving hard times, but the team was unbalanced in the last years. I think there are professional people who can bring the club back where they deserve. Montella’s slowly imposing his style. You can already see some improvements. They’ve taken the right path and can still improve.”

Many times people say this side lack of a great fullback like you. How do you rate De Scilgio and Antonelli so far?
“My times were different. We used to boss the game, we had fantasy and strength. Being nostalgic is natural. De Sciglio and Antonelli can play even if AC Milan do not have the same unpredictability of the past.”

What about Paolo Maldini? Would you like to see him in the club’s control room?
“I think many people have talked without knowing the how things really are. It is difficult to find another man like Maldini who won everything for this club and spent 25 years in this dressing room. For what he did, he’d deserve to be in the club.”

Is there a Brazilian player you’d advice to new owners?
“Brazilian football is also struggling. There’s less quality and many youngsters move to Europe. Santos’ Lucas Lima is being chased by many clubs. I’d pick him. The best ones, Juan Jesus and Gabigol are gone already.”
