EXCLUSIVE: AC Milan’s ‘foreign minister’ Umberto Gandini to be appointed as new Roma MD
Gandini is a very popular and appreciated chief around Europe, he’s also the vice-president of ECA, a powerful association that represents the top European clubs (Karl-Heinz Rumenigge is the president).
Gandini is not going to be sacked by AC Milan. New CEO and GM Marco Fassone would prefer not to see him leaving, but Gandini has been offered the role of Managing Director of AS Roma, calciomercato.com has exclusively learned.
Gandini has taken time, but he should accept AS Roma’s offer at the end of the month, joining a new club and leaving his old AC Milan that has taken a new path with the arrival of the Chinese ownership.
He is fascinated by a new Roman adventure. Gandini would work alongside GM Mauro Baldissoni and is definitely the right man to manage the club after the experience he has gained at AC Milan. Pallotta has been looking for a figure similar to Gandini for very long time. He had also offered the role of MD to Franco Baldini who eventually decided to work for the club as external advisor.
Gandini to AS Roma is just a matter of time, unless he unexpectedly changes his mind in the next few days. Gandini would be a great ‘signing’ for a club that aim to impose themselves in the European panorama.
