Exclusive: Donnarumma’s Juventus links made to destabilize AC Milan says Amelia

With the Milan derby just around the corner, calciomercato.com’s Daniele Longo has interviewed former AC Milan and Chelsea goalkeeper Marco Amelia to have his thoughts on the incoming Serie A face-off as well as on the new course of the rossoneri.

Amelia, 34, has claimed that rumours linking promising goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarruma with a move to Juventus are only made to destabilized the San Siro hierarchy.

“AC Milan are doing well now and this can be annoying for somebody. I think these rumours are only made to destabilized a club which has not been being as relaxed for many years.”

Could Donnarumma’s future depend on plans of new owners?
“He’s proved to be a very mature player he’s doing things properly, but he’s still very young. I think AC Milan fans shouldn’t be too worried. He has always said that he wants to stay t the club. The club are taking the right decisions picking up the right men like Montella. Donnarumma is young but needs no advices at the moment.”

You know Buffon very well. Do you think he’s really going to retire in 2018?

“It will be Gigi to decide when to hang his boots. I think he’ll carry on until he’s ok both physically and mentally. He’s always made the difference; I think he could continue for four more years.”

Are AC Milan the favourite side to win the derby?
“When it comes to playing derbies, there are no favourites. Mental strength is vital in these games.”

What’s the most thrilling derby you played?
“The 2011 one when Allegri was our boss. Ibra was out of action and they were just two points far from us. We managed to take the lead with Pato and we won the game for 3-0. An important result for us and for fans.”

What about your experience at Chelsea, is Mourinho really struggling to manage his players?

“I don’t think so, I knew him last year and is still a great manager. Manchester United is not an easy environment, many managers failed to replace Ferguson and club’s chiefs are not close to the team. They stay in the US and people know almost nothing about them. It will take time, but Mourinho will win with Manchester United too.”

Conte, on the other hand, is doing well after a difficult start to the season.
“He has only struggled for two games. He has an ambitious project for Chelsea, he wants to change the club’s mentality, use another formation and change the style of trainings. It’s a challenge that can only be won by a manager like him.”
