Ferrero: ‘Montella can only leave Sampdoria to coach Italy national team’

Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero has shared his thoughts on Vincenzo Montella’s future at the club with the Italian tactician who’s been linked with both Italy and AC Milan jobs.

“I would be happy to let Montella join Italy national team”, Mr. Ferrero told journalists during the event ‘Casa Samp’ held in Rome today.

“It would be a way to continues Conte’s work, Montella is great, but he has to choose what to do, he’s not my wife we didn’t get married, so I don’t know what he’s going to do.”

“AC Milan? He’s not a packet. Of course I’d like to keep him, he’s our boss, but I have no news regarding his future so I guess he’ll stay here next season.”

“I love Montella. If Italy national team or Manchester United want him, he’s free to go wherever he wants. Now we are only focused on the Derby against Genoa.”

Montella, has been sitting on Sampdoria’s bench since November 15, when he replaced Walter Zenga. As we previously reported, he has a € 1 million release clause included on his contract and he would be free to negotiate a move to any club willing to pay that money.
