FFP prevented Man City from signing £34m Alexis Sanchez, says Pellegrini

It appears that former Udinese star Alexis Sanchez could have moved to another Premier League Club.

According to former gaffer Manuel Pellegrini, Manchester City were in line to sign the Barcelona surplus, only to find Financial Fair Play’s sanctions to hamstring the citizens.

“I did not have the space in the squad for him” the Chilean confirmed to local radio ADN (via Sky UK).

El Nino Maravilla ended up joining Arsenal for £34 million, something he looks to be regretting a little as he is rumoured to win silverware, and this quest is being frustrated at the Emirates.

Sanchez joined Arsenal in a £34million deal in 2014, and Pellegrini has revealed he too was interested in signing the Chilean that summer.

“He was one of the best in the world and he showed it every day,” Pellegrini added, “He was a major player we wanted to take to City.

“We could not take him before he signed for Arsenal, it was because the club was punished for Financial Fair Play. I did not have the space in the squad for him.

“Alexis is a complete winner and hopefully he will remain a force for a number of years.”
