Former Barca, Argentina manager linked to US Soccer job

Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino has lead some of the greatest clubs in the world. Currently, he’s managing American expansion side Atlanta United to an improbable run to the MLS Cup playoffs after an incredible first season. Now, with US Soccer in disarray after missing out on their first World Cup since 1986, he’s being linked to the vacant coaching position.

Martino, 54, has been rumored to be one of the leading candidates — along with Tab Ramos and Peter Vermes — for the job that Bruce Arena resigned from Friday after the U.S. failed to gain a result against 99th ranked Trinidad & Tobago, and qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

However, after speaking to the media after their 0-0 draw against the Red Bulls last night, the former Barcelona and Argentina manager refused to add fuel to the speculation fire. According to Kyle Schnitzer of the New York Post, Martino briefly responded, “Nothing happened,” through a translator, when asked about the U.S. coaching vacancy.
