Inter 0-0 Torino: Halftime tops and flops

  • Matthew Klimberg
Two of the top strikers in Italy are facing off in Serie A this afternoon as Inter Milan hosts Torino. At the moment, however, neither Mauro Icardi nor Andrea Belotti have been able to assert themselves in the scoreless match.

TOPS & FLOPS

TOP:
Antonio Candreva – The right wing came to play has he created the first chance of the match only three minutes in with a dangerous cross that Icardi misplayed, and allowed to slip harmlessly between his legs. He also found Icardi alone in the 23rd minute, but the Argentinian misplayed it again.

Salvatore Sirigu – The Torino keeper made a spectacular save off a corner in the 37th minute. Milan Skriniar’s header appeared to be on the verge of crossing the line when he parried it away with both arms outstretched.

Samir Handanovic made a fingertip save on Daniele Baselli in the 45th minute to preserve the scoreline.

Thomas Rincon – Remained extremely active despite suffering a muscular injury in the middle of the half. Served as a strong link between the defense and attack

FLOP:
Mauro Icardi – The captain struggled to get his legs under him in the first half. After only six minutes he had misplayed two crosses from Candreva and Ivan Perisic. He later whiffed on a golden opportunity alone in front of net in the 23rd minute. In the 27th minute he failed to get a shot off in a one-on-one situation.

Danilo D’Ambrosio – Committed two horrendous turnovers in front of net leading to a pair of Torino opportunities; one of which resulted in a Daniele Baselli shot which forced a nervy save from Handanovic.

Andrea Belotti – Aside from one lengthy shot which sailed harmlessly over the Inter net, the striker failed to make a difference in the final third. Towards the end of the half he began drifting further back in the midfield.
