Inter, Ausilio clarifies position on Vidal and signings

Inter have started the season in impressive fashion, but sporting director Piero Ausilio has ruled out any big January signings.

The Nerazzurri sit in second place in Serie A after 11 games, picking up 29 points as they remain unbeaten and just two points adrift of leaders Napoli.

In turn, Luciano Spalletti has rightly earned plenty of praise since being appointed this past summer, but it doesn’t sound as though he’ll get significant reinforcements in January to help him sustain their current form with Arturo Vidal previously linked with a move to the San Siro.

“I want to be clear, because it’s not right to deceive the fans,” Ausilio told Tuttosport. “In January, we can’t make signings that aren’t financially supported by sales.

“We have already presented a plan to UEFA of our accounts, and if we do something then it will change all of our plans. We can’t go out on the market and spend €30-40 million, this applies to everyone not just Vidal.”

There may well be an argument in favour of not making such signings halfway through the campaign anyway, as Spalletti has found the right balance in his side and results show that.

With no European football this season, he arguably has enough depth at his disposal for domestic matters but ultimately, if new signings are made he won’t be welcoming any high-profile names based on Ausilio’s assessment.
