Inter owner revels in finishing above city rivals once again

Nerazzurri owner and president Erick Thohir has looked back on the season as well as giving his backing to coach Roberto Mancini: "He is a top coach, he has done well and the whole management is happy with the job he is doing. There are a few regrets, but we won’t resolve things by complaining. There is a lot of faith in Mancini, we want to support him to give his best. Inter have enjoyed a good season, not perfect, but good. We have finished fourth and we are back in Europe, an objective we missed out on last season. Since November 2013, when I took over from Massimo Moratti, three years have passed and each season we have finished above Milan. It’s a real shame we weren’t able to be perfect this season. Until January we were top of the league but, like I have said, we didn’t have the right consistency. This is football."

Thohir also looked ahead: "In any case, compared to last season, we have ended on 67 points, 12 more than the previous one. It is a good starting point, the team has an average age of 26, the key players are young. The next season we have to do much better. I think we lack a bit of character. We need to add players to the squad with leadership skills. But we already have key players such as Perisic, Kondogbia, Icardi and they need to be protected. We will strengthen the squad again. We want 2 or 3 new players that can help us reach our goals."
