Inter rival AC Milan for midfield star

Inter are in the race for Fiorentina star Borja Valero, according to the latest reports.

The Nerazzurri are set to rival Milan for the excellent passer, who has impressed since joining Fiorentina in 2012 after Villareal were relegated from La Liga.

New Coach Luciano Spalletti wants an injection of quality into the Nerazzurri’s midfield, something which has been linked to former Sevilla man Gary Medel’s contract not being renewed.

There is a further detail: Spalletti came very close to nabbing Valero last summer. The deal was done and dusted… only for the Giallorossi to embarrassingly lose 3-0 at home to Porto in the Champions League qualification round.

This effectively compromised the move, leaving the 32-year-old to struggle at Fiorentina, who had a pretty poor season.

Valero has netted fourteen Serie A goals for Fiorentina, and is regularly featured at the top end of Calcio’s midfielders.

His agent and he have struggled to reach an agreement with Fiorentina, whose owners - the Della Valle brothers- have avoided spending in the last two years.
