Inter's defense is uncertain. The only sure thing is Andrea Ranocchia and Yuto Nagatomo, who will be acquired from. In 2012  Lucio, Chivu, Samuel, Materazzi and Cordoba's contract will all expire. A few hours ago Materazzi announced his possible departure. Meanwhile, the club is working to extend Lucio's contract for another year, until 2013. They would like also to keep Chivu, who is useful in both midfield and left side.

But the defense needs younger players. Inter have let too many goals in last season.

However, Maicon's departure could be possible now that Mourinho strongly wants him. Inter do not seem to have the defense as a market priority at the moment. The names circulating arei Mats Hummels, central defender of Borussia Dortumund,  Michael Bastos of Lyon and Mimmo Criscito, on the left side. And to the right side? With Maicon's departure it would become a priority to acquire a top class right defender. The alternative? To acquire a left side defender  (Criscito?) and move Nagatomo to the right.
