Italian papers hit out at Conte and reveal his ‘biggest mistakes’ against Roma

Italian media are praising Roma for their stunning 3-0 against Chelsea yesterday night. Goals came courtesy of Stephan El Shaarawy and Diego Perotti and although the Blues’ defeat in Italy should not affect their chances to make it through the next stage, the Premier League champions should not underestimate the Olimpico defeat especially ahead of such an important Premier League clash as the one against Manchester United next week-end.

Italian papers are harshly criticizing Antonio Conte for yesterday’s defeat to Roma. “He doesn’t understand what’s wrong with Chelsea right now and, therefore, he can’t fix it”, Tuttosport claims.

According to La Gazzetta Conte ‘did the wrong substitution’, specifically when he replaced Gary Cahill with William in the second half. Conte subsequently changed the Blues’ system but that didn’t help the Premier League giants to wrap up a positive result.
Conte shredded Chelsea’s right wing allowing Perotti to score Roma’s third goal.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Conte’s biggest mitake was to start with three strikers. Chelsea struggled to come to terms with Roma’s strikers and were not able to make any counterattack at all.

A very sad night for the Blues who, however, have still some good chances to qualify for the next stage, provided that they won’t make similar mistakes in the two Champions League clashes left.
