Italy boss slams ‘bizarre’ Man Utd over defender’s availability

Italy boss Giampiero Ventura took a pre match press conference in Coverciano on Tuesday afternoon on the eve of the azzurri friendly game against San Marino.
Ventura has named two different Italy squads. The first one, which is training in Coverciano right now, is mostly made up by young and promising footballers.

The ‘senior’ Italy national team will train in Coverciano from the 4th of June and only a few young players belonging to the previous selection will be included in the squad that will face Uruguay (friendly) and Lichtenstein (WC qualifier). Man Utd’s Matteo Darmian is also being included in the senior Italy squad list but Manchester United have not allowed their defender to join the azzurri national team until the 5th of June.

“A bizarre choice – Ventura said during his press conference, attended by our reporter Lorenzo Bettoni. He’s been stopped since the Europa League final, and I think we’ve lost him for the Uruguay game too. A bizarre choice. We’re not going to cry though, we’ve lost many players over the months but locally we have a lot of youngsters thanks to the training camps.”
