Juan Cuadrado is Conte’s biggest regret: the truth on the Colombian’s buy-out clause

Colombian winger Juan Cuadrado netted the winner for Juventus in yesterday’s Champions League clash against Lyon.

The former Chelsea man is at his second successive loan spell at Juventus as he joined the Old Lady in a dry loan deal last summer, whilst the Old Lady managed to get him on loan for the next three seasons and with a buy-out clause this past summer.

Our reporter in London Guglielmo Cannavale reports that Cuadrado has joined Juventus for the next three seasons paying a fee of € 5 million a year. The buy-out clause is set to € 25 million and is automatically activated if the player registers a certain number of appearances with the Old Lady.

Juventus can get the money spent for the player’s loan back, once they activate the buy-out clause. If they make the winger’s move permanent in three years time, by instance, they’d only pay € 10 million.

Antonio Conte is not going to coach Cuadrado at Chelsea then. The former Fiorentina moved to the J Stadium in the deadline day of the summer transfer window. The Italian tactician wanted to keep him at the Stamford Bridge, but Cuadrado struggled to adapt to life in England and asked the Blues to return to Juventus last summer.

The role of right winger in Conte’s new 3-4-3 system would have been perfect for the 28-year-old winger who is one of Conte’s favourite players. Meantime, Chelsea fans are divided. Someone thinks that Chelsea could have make an extra effort to keep him, whilst someone else believes that Chelsea have made a good deal after all as Juventus are going to pay as much as Chelsea spent to sign Cuadrado from Fiorentina two years ago.

It is fair to say, however, that the likes of Cuadrado and Salah did not impress at Chelsea but are shining with Serie A sides instead.
