Juve CEO: 'Allegri may renew, Totti-Del Piero different situations'

During an interview accorded to Rai 2, Juventus Chief Executive Giuseppe Marotta analyzed Francesco Totti’s situation: “It’s clear that Roma must manage an embarrassing situation. I can tell what happened to us with Del Piero, a Juve legend. When his contract was about to expire, we extend it for another reason. Later, the club thanked him for what he has done, but, at the same time, announced that that was going to be his last season. All ended in the best way, with another title won. We have made a clear decision. Were there an option for Del Piero to become an executive? Let’s not forget that at the same time, a former ballon d’or like Pavel Nedved entered the club. Moreover, Del Piero was still playing. On which side am I this time? On Roma’s side. We must understand who gave Spalletti the power to act in a certain way. In any case, the club comes before everything”

Marotta also talked about his club’s transfer market: “Can Allegri renew? There are all the conditions, starting the new season with a coach whose contract is about to expire is unacceptable. Pogba? Last year many clubs tried to start a negotiation, but we refused, he’s too important for our team. We don’t force anybody to stay, but Juve usually don’t sell their champs. Pogba or Gundogan? Easier that the Frenchman will stay than the German will join”.
