Juve look to old friends Bayern for Bonucci replacement

Juve look to old friends Bayern for Bonucci replacement

  • David Baleno

According to reports out of England via The Mirror, Juventus are once again showing interest in a player from Bayern Munich. This time links are between the Bianconeri and central defender Mats Hummels, as Juve look to reinforce their back line following the departure of Leonardo Bonucci to rivals Milan. Though it is true that the Old Lady already have four centerbacks in their squad, links to Hummels would represent an eye towards youth, as Chiellini and Barzagli are both past 30 years old.

The news for Hummels and Juve seems easy to accept considering the close relationship between the two clubs. After Coman, Benatia, Vidal, and now Douglas Costa, Bayern and Juve continue to be ‘friends’ on the market, always finding deals and keeping a positive professional environment. Time is not on either team’s side, as the preseason is already underway, thus making it difficult to replace world class players such as Bonucci or Hummels. Regardless, both clubs will have their domestic and European championships on their minds, as both will want to keep and build squads capable of challenging on both fronts.
