Juventus make contact with Man Utd for Italian international defender

Despite reports recently stating that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho had no intention selling Matteo Darmian, comes news from Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio that Serie A champions Juventus have made their move to try to sign the 27-year-old.

The Italian international defender arrived at Old Trafford in the summer of 2015 from Juve’s city rivals Torino in a deal worth £12.7M and has made 68 appearances for the Red Devils during his time at the club. The player’s favoured position is right-back but the exceptional form of Antonio Valencia in that position has seen Darmian spending more time on the substitute’s bench.

Latest reports state that Mourinho is now ready to off-load the player and with Juventus set to send Dani Alves to Manchester City, a place has become available back in Turin. Di Marzio writes that United are willing to listen to offers of around £17M to get the deal over the line and that Bianconeri chiefs made contact on Tuesday to open the negotiations.
