Juventus: Marotta gives transfer update on two midfield targets
“I can’t deny that we are working on these two footballers”, Marotta told Radio Anch’io lo sport on Monday morning, two days after Juventus’ 1-0 win over Roma.
“We have a first-option clause to sign Bentancur. We can activate that clause by April 2017 and we are definitely going to sign him. Bentancur, however, is not going to arrive in January, but he’ll join us at the beginning of the next campaign.”
“Witsel is a great opportunity because his contract expires in 2017. We’ve had contact with Zenit because we want to take it to Turin earlier than next summer and we are waiting for the Russian club’s final answer.”
Atalanta youngsters Mattia Caldara and Roberto Gagliardini are also on Juventus’ shopping list: “They are two interesting footballers. Our main target is to sign the most promising Italian footballers out there, that’s the only winning formula. Signing young, Italian players is the only way to make them understand what wearing the black-and-white shirt means.”
